Scratching of Surface of “Anne of Green Gables” Connection to Shoujo

While reading “Bread & Butter” Chapter 4 today, I came across an “Anne of Green Gables” reference in one of the panels. I’ve never read “Anne of Green Gables” because I fall asleep before I can finish the first chapter. Unfortunately, this means I have no idea what the reference means, which means I can’t translate it. So I decided to get the Audiobook version of the novel and, for kicks, I did a Google search for find out what is the deal with “Anne of Green Gables” and shoujo. After wading through 3 pages of scanlation sewage, I finally found what I was looking for. My mind has been blown. I can’t really write anything about how I feel because I’m still processing all of this. I feel very “;kasjoieh a;lkjsf;ioeakda” right now. This just scratches the surface, but my mind is open to so much now and I don’t think I’ll be able to read shoujo manga the same again. Anyhow, if you want a glimpse into the connection between “Anne of Green Gables” and shoujo and a whole bunch of other manga “stuff”, give this paper a read.
