Highlights from Gekkan Princess Issue 1/2015
“Royal Emblem” is on the cover of the January 2015 issue of Gekkan Princess. The furoku is a really nice 40th anniversary wall calendar. If you like color images from retro shoujo, then you need to buy this issue for the this lovely calendar.
Here are the frontis pages from some of the series in this issue.
I feel bad because I had not realized that Saki Aikawa’s previous series ended last summer. Because the characters look so similar, I assumed it was the same series. I’ll have to go back to the November issue to find out what this series “Meikyuu Romantica” (“Labyrinth Romantica”) is about.
This is the second chapter of Tooru Fujieda’s new series “Yumebu e Yokoso” (“Welcome to the Dream Club”). I live tweeted the first chapter last month. I liked it a lot, so I’m looking forward to reading this chapter.
“Royal Emblem” color pages are always gorgeously retro. I love the eyebrows and the feather motif.
Here is the frontis page from the “Seishun Shonbori Club” Chp 47.
There’s an ongoing series of oneshots called “Shitsuren Robot” (“The Heartbroken Robot”). I don’t understand why this isn’t being called a series since this is the 4th story and there will be a 5th story in the next issue.
This is from Tableau Gate. It’s on chapter 70.
And lastly, here’s the latest series from Mika Kajiyama, “Hana yori mo Yaiba no Gotoku” (“More Like a Blade than a Flower”). Volume 4 releases on December 16. Here’s a link to preorder it.
There was a large section in the middle of this issue dedicated to the second “Yowamushi Pedal” tribute. There were several short comics and illustrations from Princess and guest mangaka. If you are a “Yowamushi Pedal” fan, you may want to get this issue for the all the YP goodness. Here’s a small sample of some of the illustrations.
And now onto the previews for the next issue. 2015 is the 40th year anniversary of Gekkan Princess, so there will be tributes in each issue this year. Here’s the color advertisement.
“Baraou no Souretsu” returns after taking a short break. It will be on the cover and have a color frontis page. Also volume 3 releases on January 16th. Here’s a link to pre-order it. Also “Hakuba ga Ouji-sama” (“The White Horse is the Prince”) Volume 1 will be released on January 16th. I’m very excited about both releases.
As for the 40th anniversary extras, there will be:
- A Fancy Autograph Paper Present
- Princess 40th Chronicle 1980’s compilation
- Memorial Interview
Gekkon Princess issue 2/2015 goes on sale January 6th.
